An OHIP referral for MD involvement (including tongue-tie assessment and release) has to come from a physician, midwife or nurse practitioner, so it isn’t yours to write. That doesn’t leave you stuck. There are two things you can do from here, and each one gets your client in front of an IBCLC and on the path to meeting their infant feeding goals (and our physician specializing in Breastfeeding Medicine) sooner.

Share their details on the Allied Health Consultation Request Form and we’ll pick it up from there.

When waiting is the thing that hurts.
They can book, and OBC will help them ask for the referral if needed.
They can pick their own consultant or answer a few questions and let us point them at one.

OBC Breastfeeding Medicine Program
Learn to catch it in your own room.
The program builds your lactation support skills so you can help breastfeeding, chestfeeding and human milk feeding families in your own area.
You’ll learn to identify and respond to a wide range of lactation risk factors: prenatally, through the birth itself, in the fourth trimester and beyond. And you’ll understand how an unidentified lactation issue affects whether a mother meets her feeding goals.
It is the kind of knowledge you can use the week after you learn it, on the families already in front of you.
